Sierra Negra Volcano – Tour description
The hiking tour starts very early in the morning, after a good rest with our energy fully charged. Our team will pick you up at your hotel so we can start our journey. We will drive for about 45 minutes to the Sierra Negra location at 800 meters, where the hiking begins. We’ll start climbing towards to the top of the Sierra Negra Volcano.
The crater has a 10 km diameter and its cover with solidified lava. The view up there is out of this world, literrally. Most travelers describe it like “it feels being in Mars” because of the landscape colors.
The walk is not difficult and there’s no need to have previous experience in hiking. You just need to be in good shape and be motivated. The road is mostly flat and does not have many steep areas, so it will not be difficult to get to the top. Once we get there, we will walk around the crater to get a better view of it. Along the way the guide will tell you facts about how the Galapagos Islands were formed and its volcanic history.
Chico Volcano: a panoramic view of the Island
After this first stop, we’ll continue our walk towards the Chico Volcano. From this spot on a good day you’ll be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the northern part of the Island, the Darwin Volcano, Santiago Island, Fernandina and Pinzón.
Once we get there you’ll feel how the volcano is still alive and in some spots you can even feel how the earth is warm. Here, with this wonderful view we’ll have lunch, freshen up and get ready to go down and return to the hotel.
Sierra Negra volcano tour is a must in Galapagos. Its price is not hight and its a unique tour, different from others that usually take you snorkeling. This day tour stands out and you won’t regret taking it.
